Year 3 Visit to the Farm

Year 3 Farm Discovery Day
11th & 12th June, 2025

What a day we have had at the farm! We began our day talking about the importance of the soil. The children had the opportunity to touch and feel the soil. Farmer Jack told us that the more crumbly the soil, the better it is for growing crops. We then moved on to a wheat field. We learnt about how wheat is grown, when it is ready to be harvested, and we measured how much wheat is needed to make a loaf of bread. We all then ran around the tram lines, and after our run we had a bug hunt.

After lunch we learnt about the machines needed for the harvest, and the process of making flour and bread. We got to sit at the wheels of some of the machines, we visited the grain store, and we also went to the barn and grinded the wheat to turn it into flour.

We really enjoyed our day out on the farm - it was both really fun and informative, and we would like to say a huge thank you to the farmers for taking the time for us, to The Country Trust for organising the visits, and to Warburtons for subsidising this trip. Thank you!
