Intent
At Carrington Junior School, our curriculum provides opportunities for all pupils to learn widely and achieve their potential; to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.
Pupils at our school will develop the skills that will enable them to become fully equipped to cope with the challenges of secondary school and subsequent adult life. Our curriculum reflects this by challenging pupils to become active, engaged learners, and by raising awareness of links between curriculum areas and to prior and future learning. The ability to make links between things we know and our prior knowledge, and to apply skills and knowledge to new situations, is what makes us good learners.
Implementation
Learning at Carrington Junior School is based on a firm foundation of carefully planned learning steps within discrete curriculum areas which takes into account key knowledge, skills and vocabulary, as well as making links across the curriculum to help pupils remember more. Learning follows a planned progression throughout the Key Stage, enabling pupils to revisit prior learning and embed it, as well as extending their learning in new ways.
Impact
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils have been introduced to a broad curriculum and have developed a knowledge and skills base which will allow them to succeed, and to meet new challenges in a resilient way, as they move into secondary school and beyond.
