Year 5 Ukrainian Workshop

Last Wednesday, to celebrate International Mother Language Day, Year 5 took part in a Ukrainian cultural enrichment day with the Stephen Spender Trust.
Led by Cheryl Moskowitz, the Ukrainian workshop offered a powerful, collaborative experience for our pupils. The day was built around looking at cultural traditions, story telling and trying their hand at a bit of translation.
Pupils used decoding and English language skills to translate a Ukrainian poem and to produce an English language version. The method uses images, glossaries, and other prompts.
We learnt that languages do not always translate literally!
Thank you so much to Cheryl, we really enjoyed the workshop and what a fantastic way to celebrate bilingualism and promote values of tolerance, respect, and inclusion.
