Vision

Teach reading: change lives

Reading is essential for all subject areas and improves life chances. Positive attitudes to reading and choosing to read have academic, social and emotional benefits for children. In Phonics we aim to ensure that every child possesses a phonic knowledge that they can independently apply; enhancing spelling skills through carefully planned practice, rigorous assessment and intervention.

The Phonics Curriculum

Our school has chosen Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised as our systematic, synthetic phonics (SSP) programme to teach early reading and spelling.

Our curriculum will teach children how to decode letters into their respective sounds, a skill that is essential for them to read unfamiliar words by themselves.

Supporting your child

The resources below will help you support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters. There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home.

Support for phonics

It is really important that you pronounce the sounds correctly at home if you are supporting your child. These videos are on the website for you to refer to and if you are unsure, please ask your child’s teacher. These four videos show you how to pronounce the sounds.

Supporting your child with reading

Although your child will be taught to read at school, you can have a huge impact on their reading journey by continuing their practice at home.
